Precautions that a Diabetic Patient must be Concerned about to Live the Rest of the Life Happily

Everyone wants to lead a healthy life. But at times, we get encountered with certain diseases. And this is not in our control. We can cure or heal some diseases with medicine; however, some are chronic diseases—one example of chronic disease is diabetes. Diabetes affects how our body makes energy from food. There are two different situations if you have diabetes.

For Type 1 diabetes your body won’t produce insulin and for Type 2 diabetes you still produce insulin but you either don’t produce enough or use it inefficiently. Insulin is a hormone released from the pancreas. Its function is to reduce the blood sugar level if it rises. Also, it permits the blood sugar into your body’s cells for use as energy.

There’s no preventative measure for Type 1 and the only treatment is insulin injections. However, for Type 2 the biggest risk factor is obesity and an unhealthy lifestyle. This means it can be prevented and treated effectively. An obese person with type 2 diabetes is often eligible for weight loss surgery in the form of gastric sleeve surgery Newcastle or alternative bariatric surgeries. In most case, this surgery in addition to lifestyle changes leads to weight loss and sends type 2 diabetes into remission.

A proper diet to control diabetes

There is no proper cure for diabetes. However, some ways can help you to control your diabetes level. Having a proper diet, doing regular exercises, losing weight, these things can help. There are mainly three types of diabetes. Type1, Type2, gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is common for pregnant women. However, only Type1 and Type2 are long-lasting.

Some people fear that having diabetes means you won’t be able to eat your favourite food. But there is a piece of good news. You can still enjoy your favourite food, but you have to limit the number of times you eat your comfort food. Also, you have to eat your favourite food in small portions. If you are a diabetic patient, your diet must contain both starchy and nonstarchy vegetables. Nonstarchy vegetables incorporate peppers, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, and greens. And starchy vegetables involve corn, potatoes, and green peas. If possible, you can eat an avocado every day or three times a week.

You must consume fruits such as oranges, melons, berries, apples, grapes, and bananas. Your diet must contain things like chicken or turkey without the skin, lean meat, fish, nuts and peanuts, chickpeas, and split peas. And if you are a vegetarian, you can eat tofu. All things will help you to get the right amount of protein. And when it comes to dairy, low-fat dairy kinds of stuff are the best for a diabetic patient, such as yogurt.

Foods a diabetic patient must avoid

There are certain foods and drinks you must avoid if you have diabetes. Try to avoid fried food and other foods that have high saturated fat. Even if you want to eat fried food, avoid cooking using stick margarine, shortening, lard, or butter. Use olive oil instead. And drink a lot of water instead of sweetened beverages such as regular soda, juice, energy drinks, etc. And in your coffee and tea, use sugar substitutes instead of natural sugar. Most adults consume alcohol more or less. Suppose you take insulin or diabetes medicines that raise the amount of insulin your body produces. It would help if you didn’t drink alcohol as it lowers your blood glucose level too much.

Recent studies found that each year 34.2 million get diabetes. Not only is diabetes chronic it also causes other problems to the body. It causes eye damage, cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney damage, Alzheimer’s disease, hearing impairment, and many other diseases.
