Regardless of how frustrating and cruel the world can be, unfortunately we can’t control others. However, we can control ourselves and the way that we react to others. Regardless of the deck of cards that the world deals you, it’s in your best interest to remain a good human. In truth, goodness has a ripple effect in society, and the better of a person you are, the more you’ll encourage others to do good as well. 

So, how can you be a better human right now? Here are some simple ways you can start.

Be Kind to The Planet

Your apartment, or your backyard may be your personal property, the earth as a whole is shared property. Caring about the environment should be a collective concern for everyone. It’s important that you treat the earth with kindness, and keep the planet in mind at all times. 

From reducing the amount of waste you contribute, to recycling, to getting started composting there are all sorts of different ways that you can be kind to the planet. With a little bit of commitment, and a conscious effort to do better, we can all make a significant difference in the world that we live in.

Practice Empathy

If we hope to create a more compassionate and harmonious world, the first place to start is having empathy for each other. Unlike sympathy, empathy is about sharing the feelings of others rather than simply understanding them. If everyone took a minute to put themselves in other people’s shoes, the world would be a kinder place to live in. 

The truth is that we never know how we would react to the world or certain circumstances unless we were put in that situation ourselves. So have a little compassion and understanding for people’s experience, because everyone is fighting their own unique battle.

Think about what’s going right in your life rather than what’s going wrong, and this will become contagious to others. Recognizing and appreciating what you have will shift your focus from what you don’t have and give your life greater meaning overall.
