Hundreds Volunteer to End Hunger in Bucks County, Pennsylvania

United Way of Bucks County was in action again as they marked their 10th year of Bucks Knocks Out Hunger. Dubbed BKO Hunger, the annual event brings together thousands of volunteers in Bucks County in a country-wide food drive. The volunteers raise funds and participate in the meal packaging event. Also present during the event were donors and advocates who worked hard to end hunger in Bucks County.

The event brings together several sponsors

The BKO Hunger event is sponsored by different entities such as PECO, Wegmans, and Parx Casino, a leading casino in PA that also offers online casino products for gamblers who prefer to place bets remotely. Recently, the casino launched the Parx Casino NJ to provide online gambling services to the neighboring state of New Jersey.

This year’s BKO Hunger event was particularly important

According to the Director of Financial Stability and Health in United Way of Bucks County, Tim Philpot, this year’s BKO Hunger event was particularly important. This is because Bucks County residents are currently facing a new challenge as food and gas prices continue to soar. The families that are feeling the greatest heat are those that are poor and some from the moderate-income class.

This is one of the major reasons why US residents should act mindfully and give their support to these families. The rising prices of groceries are going beyond their wages at a time when help from the federal government is dwindling. The situation puts the needy Bucks County residents at crossroads, not knowing where to get help or the next step to take.

The donations go a long way in supporting needy residents

The event brought together volunteers of all ages, starting from elementary school kids to mothers, fathers, workers, business people, and senior citizens. They might have had many other things to do in Pennsylvania, but they decided to dedicate their time to charity. They participated in the meal packaging event that was held at Neshaminy Mall. They packed shelf-stable meals that will be available at BKO Hunger support food pantries in the entire country.

The money raised during the funds drive is spent on buying healthy food for needy families. They are supplied with eggs, dairy, and fresh products. Other sponsors of the Bucks Knock Out Hunger are the Bucks County Community College, St. Philips Episcopal Church, Suez, NJM Insurance Group, and Comcast.

Janet has been volunteering for the BKO Hunger events for many years. She described the current happenings around the world as too much, which can make an individual feel helpless. According to Janet, the event is one of the little things a person can do to directly impact positively to the Bucks community. This is the main reason why she has consistently supported the event.
